The normal duration of the program is 2 terms. Students can finish the program in 3 terms.

Students need to take the following must courses:

8420501/Asia in World Affairs (offered in Fall only)

8420513/Theories and Concepts in Asian Studies (offered in Fall only)

8330520/Research Ethics, Methods and Design in Area Studies (offered in Spring only)

In order to complete the program satisfactorily, students need to complete 11 + 2 (language) courses in total. These include:

3 must courses (listed above)

7 elective courses (2 of these electives can be from other relevant graduate programs. 3rd and 4th year courses may also be accepted. Please consult your advisor.)

Term Project course (non-credit). You can take this in your 2nd or 3rd semester. Also offered during Summer School.

Plus 2: 2 Area language courses need to be taken either from METU as NI courses or from private institutions (e.g. TÖMER). You need to have at least 2 levels certified if you are taking course from a private institution. If you are a speaker of Asian languages, you may be exempt from this requirement.

You need to have a CGPA of 3,00 to graduate.
