Moritz Koenig

Moritz is a PhD candidate at SOAS, University of London. His research focuses on Indonesian legal history, social anthropology, and 'histories from below'. In particular, Moritz engages with the constitution of colonial legalism as a writerly and discursive formation and its role in transforming local Indonesian socialities and subjectivities. His research has so far been published in Indonesia and the Malay World.  
Moritz holds degrees in law from Maastricht University and SOAS, University of London. He has previously taught undergraduate and postgraduate classes in  Southeast Asian legal history, and concepts of law in Asia and Africa. 
At METU, Moritz supports the work of faculty members and welcomes engagement with students interested in multi-disciplinary approaches to the law and history of Southeast Asia, critical anthropological approaches to colonialism, and Subaltern Studies.
